Meet Heather Guillen PE, ENV SP
The ASCE Texas Section Board of Direction members were asked to fill out a questionnaire so that the Section’s members might get to know them a little better on a personal level. These are Vice-President for Educational Affairs, Heather Guillen’s answers.
When did you first get involved with ASCE at any level (student chapter, local branch, section)?
I originally got involved with ASCE over 20 years ago when I was an undergraduate student at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. When I moved to Houston, Texas I became involved as a young professional at the ASCE Houston Branch. In 2013, A coworker was the incoming ASCE Houston Branch President at that time and reached out to me about the secretary position. I was excited about the opportunity and wanted to support my friend and coworker, so I eagerly accepted the nomination. I held several board positions at the ASCE Houston Branch from 2013-2017 until a similar situation occurred which got me involved with serving at the Section level. In 2017, a friend from the ASCE Houston Branch was the incoming ASCE Texas Section President and reached out to me about the Student Activities Committee Chair position. Again, I was thrilled about another opportunity and of course, always want to support a friend, so I happily volunteered. I enjoyed serving on that committee for several years and now I’m honored to serve as the ASCE Texas Section Vice-President of Educational Affairs!

Christmas. It’s the most wonderful time of the year.

I love the beach! All you need is a good dose of vitamin sea.

Having a nice bottle of wine with the hubby and friends or having fun playing sports/games with my boys.
