August 19 @ 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM CDT

Join ASCE’s State Government Relations and Grassroots Committee for a three-part webinar series covering best practices in advocating in your community.

“If civil engineers don’t advocate on behalf of our built environment, then who will?

ASCE members like you are impacted by the laws, regulations, and policies passed in Washington D.C., in the halls of state capitols, and local governance offices across the country. It’s imperative for you to be engaged with your state and local public officials to educate them on the legislative and regulatory opportunities and risks impacting infrastructure in your community, public safety, economy, and the civil engineering profession. But—how do you begin getting more involved in advocacy? In this special series, learn how to mobilize your technical and on-the-ground expertise as a civil engineer to your public officials. Get started by learning how to build a relationship with an elected official; learn more about crafting an advocacy strategy with your state report card; and find out about civil engineers like yourself running for public office.

Part 2: Crafting a State Report Card Advocacy Strategy

State report cards are an invaluable resource in your advocacy arsenal. For state and local officials, it’s a reliable data source with specific examples and solutions of how to pass legislation and funding to positively impact their constituents and communities. It’s often cited by staffers and state officials as a well-respected, easy-to-use resource. State report cards’ recommendations to raise the grade are a built-in vehicle to jumpstart your advocacy work. Dive into an engaging panel discussion on how ASCE leaders utilize their state report card recommendations to shape their advocacy strategy and implement infrastructure advancements in their communities.

Part 3, Running for public office as a civil engineer, will be held on September 17, 2024 at 3:00 PM ET.
